Reason Ships Another CFD HPC Cluster to Major University
 Reason just completed the shipment of another Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) HPC cluster for basic research at a major university. The 55 node Beowulf CFD cluster will be used for the study of reservoir and dam modeling as well as blood flow. Benchmarks showed a performance in excess of One TFLOP (trillion floating point operations per second). Each node of the cluster was built using two AMD Opteron Dual-Core CPU's which effectively yields a 220 CPU cluster. Key elements of the cluster are:
- Centos 4.3 for X86_64 Linux OS
- Warewulf Clustering Software
- Sun Grid Engine (SGE) Scheduling and Resource Manager
- MPICH2 Cluster Messaging Protocol
- Ganglia Cluster Monitoring Tool
- IPMI Hardware Management
- Myrinet 2000 Series Intra-cluster Communications Switches

Shea PC and Reason, two leading providers of custom configured computing solutions, formally announce today that corporate operations have combined to form one of the largest and fastest growing system builders in the United States.
The new company will be doing business as Reason going forward. Reason is confident this expansion will provide tremendous opportunities for new customer services and product offerings as well as allow high-level access to some of the largest vendors in the computing industry including Microsoft, Intel, and AMD. With a combined thirty years in business, the combination of Shea PC and Reason will bring a new level of expertise to our customers.
Reason will be located in a state of the art facility in Burnsville, Minnesota. This 60,000 square foot building features a large manufacturing center, research and development hub, on-site daycare, and other features that will provide better opportunities to serve customers.

Ships Another Beowulf HPC Cluster
Reason has recently shipped another
Beowulf Open Source Linux based HPC (High Performance Computing)
cluster computer for doing Computational Fluid Dynamics work
within the a department of a major university. The HPC cluster
had a master node and multiple compute nodes all based on
dual Opteron™ 64-bit servers. The OS and all applications
are 64-bit to take advantage of the power that 64-bit computing
brings to users.
Reason built its first clusters five years ago and has the capability and
experience to build custom HPC clusters implementing Open Source Linux, Warewulf Cluster Management, Ganglia, PVM, Tough2,
Itough2, MATLAB®, MATLAB® Distributed Computing, LAM-MPI
as well as many other Open Source based products. |
